Self of the Therapist: Showing Up Well
for Our Clients
About the Training:
We all bring ourselves into the therapy room—our strengths, our histories, our stress, our values, and our humanity. The more aware we are of what we carry, the more intentionally and ethically we can show up for the people we serve.
Join the North Texas EFT Community for a training focused on the Self of the Therapist and the role it plays in ethical, effective clinical work. Together, we'll explore what it means to stay grounded, reflective, and present in the face of the challenges that come with being a therapist.
This won't be a day of lecture alone. Participants will engage in experiential activities designed to deepen self-awareness and foster meaningful reflection. We'll also hear from a live panel of EFT supervisors who will share their perspectives, experiences, and lessons learned from years of clinical practice.
Come ready to learn, reflect, connect, and invest in the most important tool you bring to therapy: yourself.
CEs: 6 Available. Full participation is required to qualify for a certificate of completion.
Learning objectives:
Engage in reflective exercises that promote therapist awareness and restore flexibility.
Participate in a Live Q & A with a panel of Licensed and/or Certified Supervisors

“Treating Clients that Trigger Your Own Trauma”
This experiential session provides a practical matrix and ethical decision-making model for identifying and managing your own trauma triggers when they are activated in the therapy room. This training also includes an experiential portion where we’ll practice a concrete, in‑session regulation skill you can use the moment activation hits while keeping the focus on your clients.
Erin Davis, LMFT-S, ICEEFT Certified Therapist & Supervisor
“Therapist Vulnerabilities and the Ethics of Self Care”
The very qualities that make therapists effective—deep empathy, warmth, and the willingness to share our humanity—can also lead to depletion and ethical lapses. This session examines the emotional toll of clinical work and unpacks why prioritizing self-care is not a luxury, but an ethical responsibility.

“When Safety Becomes a Barrier to Bravery: The Ethics of a Temporary Attachment Figure”
We are trained to build safety, but our skill at containing distress can outwork our clients' leading edge, over-regulating in a way that becomes a barrier to client autonomy and to finding their balance in the proximal zone. This experiential session explores the ethics of being a temporary attachment figure, and how to grow our trust in returning the lead to our clients.
