EFTC Core Skills Extended Training Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy

About the Training

EFT Core Skills Training helps therapists deepen their understanding of the model and strengthen their ability to use it in clinical practice. With the EFT Tango as a guiding framework, each module explores specific steps of the therapeutic process and the interventions that help couples move toward greater emotional safety and connection.

The training progresses through four modules:

Core Skills 1 & 2 (January 14-16, 2027)

  • Assessment, alliance building, and identifying the negative interactional cycle—Stage One, Steps 1 and 2.

  • Accessing underlying emotions and reframing the cycle through an attachment lens to support de-escalation—Stage One, Steps 3 and 4.

Core Skills 3 & 4 (February 18-20, 2027)

  • Facilitating withdrawer re-engagement—Stage Two, Steps 5, 6, and 7.

  • Facilitating pursuer softening—Stage Two, Steps 5, 6, and 7.

Participants will have opportunities to receive feedback on video recordings of their own clinical work, helping them connect what they are learning with the moments where they feel challenged in session. Participants pursuing EFT certification must present a recording of their work to fulfill the applicable training requirement.

The primary focus is couples therapy, including the complexities of working with partners caught in relational distress. The attachment framework and many of the interventions explored also have applications in individual and family therapy.
